The beach is backed by high cliffs and a row of coastline huts with delicately sloping sands that make it household pleasant. The south-west coastline is largely unspoilt and also a designated location of superior natural charm. Freshwater Bay and Alum Bay are prominent coastlines-- both are close to The Needles, chalk stacks at the island's western point.
